Summer Solstice.
It happened this week on June 21st.
The start of summer.
When the northern hemisphere of our Earth is at its maximum tilt.
Solstice is derived from the Latin words sol (Sun) and sistere (to stand still). It’s when the Sun’s northward movement in the sky appears to pause briefly before reversing direction for the next six months.
Within the Artic and Antarctic circles, a midnight sun glows overhead. But for most of us in the northern hemisphere, it’s the longest day and shortest night of the year. Each year the date of the SUMMER SOLSTICE interchanges between the 20th, 21st and 22nd of June.
